The Specials Laboratory is an independent company run by Pharmacists.
We use our formulation expertise to provide Community Pharmacists with appropriate custom made medicines for a variety of patients for whom a suitable licensed product is not available.

IPS is an independent ‘Specials’ company owned and managed by Pharmacists. We strongly believe in harnessing the Patient-Doctor-Pharmacist triad, with the ultimate well-being of the patient, at the core of our philosophy. We provide Innovative, Professional Custom Compounding Solutions to optimise patient therapy outcomes.
What standards do we adhere to?
Operating from an MHRA licensed facility, and in adherence to strict cGMP principles, we employ highly qualified and trained manufacturing personnel, and adopt rigorous Quality Control procedures with our medicines. We also hold an import licence to supply Unlicensed, Named Patient Medicines from reputable sources throughout the world.
Why are we useful to society?
Understanding the unique needs of individual patients is of prime importance to us. Whether a child prefers a particular flavoured medicine, or a person is allergic to preservatives in a cream, or an elderly person has swallowing difficulties, we formulate bespoke medicines to suit individual requirements.
How can we be seen as dynamic?
Rapid response to orders is the culmination of improving efficiency, on an ongoing basis, in all aspects of our activities. Personnel training in manufacturing, QC, and administration departments, together with utilising lean principles, are the basis of evolving in this dynamic industry. Facility, Equipment, SOP’s, Formulation & Shelf life, and cold-chain distribution management are continually reviewed and updated.
How are we patient focussed?
The patient and corresponding therapy is at the forefront of all our endeavours. From dosage form and formulation particulars, to ‘patient -friendly’ packaging and express delivery service, our efforts are focused on maximising quality, compliance and therapeutic outcome for the patient.
