By their very nature Specials often have no information on bioavailability and in meeting unpredictable individual patient need, Doctors and Pharmacists are quite often treading new ground, as far as the dosing is concerned. However, through continued investment in the highest quality facilities, strictly controlled working environments, specialisation in dosage formats, finely calibrated equipment and by attracting, retaining and training of highly skilled people, ACSM members show their commitment to safety and risk control.

Guidance Note 14 sets out the rules surrounding manufacture and Supply of Specials and all ACSM members hold a MHRA Specials Manufacturing License and comply with a large number of quality standards including British and European Community Directives.

Many ACSM members are also Investors in People and all have dedicated staff, who are enabled to concentrate on the task in hand, without the interruption to their work flow that can occur when preparing and “extemp’ in a busy pharmacy.
